  1. Celtic Cottage in Long Branch has a pretty nice corned beef sandwich.

Depends were you live, Fred & Murrays in Manalapan/Freehold area is ok. Nothing around is as good as what I grew up on but his is not bad.

      2. Is Deli King of Linden still around? I know Larry's/Plainfield closed...

Also, Lox Stock & Deli in Milltown (South Jersey)

YEs the Linden place is still there but rather dirty

Deli King in CLark is much better

        2. Hands down the best is Irv's Deli in Neptune on Hwy 33, across from the hospital. They are sooo good and really thick.Yumm!!!

              Barbarella & cantkick,

Thanks for the mention, I drive by Irv's all the time but will now make it a point to stop in for lunch sometime soon.

          1. Irv and Karens on route 88 Brick NJ is the best in the area. Irv was the original owner of Irv's in Neptune serving great Pastrami and Corned beef sandwiches for years. I remember eating their almost 50 years ago. A "Shore Special" which is their specialty item is one of the best sandwiches I have ever ate.

Celtic Cottage right around the corner does it better IMO.

              2. On the northern edge of the area considered Central NJ, in Berkeley Hts is Goodman's Deli, a really good Jewish Deli, not only is the corned beef really good, the pastrami is out of this world.

                1. I'd be happy if anyone could narrow it down, and recommend good corned beef (or pastrami) in Mercer County. I know the OP inquired about all of Central NJ, but people seem to define Central NJ in diferent ways. Mercer County seems (to me) unambiguosly located in the center of New Jersey. There's lots of good pizza, cheese steaks and hoagies, but, after living here nearly 20 years, I can't provide a "go to" spot for corned beef/pastrami or deli, in general. Is it mandatory to go to NYC (or even Philadelphia) to get such items?

                  1. I think you may have to go down to the Cherry Hill area to find one closer to you, or to the Highland Park/Edison area -which ever is closer to you. Let me know I have recommendations in both areas.
