Coconut Cake

I know there have been SO many posts about cakes, but no one has said where the best coconut cake is to be found and I need one now!

Grateful in advance, Shoppingfiend

    1. You mean like the southern-style layer cake that's white cake with a soft, moist crumb and a whipped-cream frosting that's covered in flaked coconut and which may or may not have lemon curd between the layers?

Yeah, can't get that here. Sorry. I just make my own.

I like the recipe on epicurious.com from the Peninsula Grill. The filling is fantastic, the cake is different from the one they serve in the restaurant I'm told. I use my own favorite white cake recipe. The filling is SO good and you don't really have to wait overnight to use it.. I like the idea of a whipped cream frosting for the outside, I usually make it like an inside out german chocolate cake by torting the layers and not using a side frosting, just slathering on more of the filling for the top.

OMG, I don't want to say this, but I think I hate you :) I can't remember the last time I had a cake of that description. You owe us, to post a recipe on home cooking!!

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's where I got the recipe for the last one I made!

                2. If you can't get BFP to make you one, I did see a delicious-looking coconut cake for two at Fresh Pond WF tonight, seemed like a Valentine's special. Their cakes are pretty moist, which I think is a must especially for a coconut cake.

                    1. I adore coconut cake. Formaggio Kitchen on Huron Ave in Cambridge has the best. I remember purchasing one to take home because they didn't sell by the slice. My wife and I ended up eating the whole thing in the car!!! It never saw our house except for the box.

                        1. The one at Sportello Bakery is truly amazing, but you may have to pre-order.
