Looking for somewhere new to eat this weekend....

Going into the city tomorrow to check out the French Market and Fox & Obel and any other specialty food/cheese places we find.

We want to have a nice dinner in town too. We have had great dinners at Bin 36 & Bin 36 Cafe but want to try something new. Nothing too high end like L2O or Alinea but not places like Kuma's Corner or Hot Doug's. Something between the two extremes. Not interested in Asian or Indian food. Prefer to go north of the Loop.

Thanks!

When you say "north of the Loop", do you mean near the Loop (such as River North and the Michigan Avenue area), or do you mean the north side and/or northern suburbs? I assume since you're coming into the city that you're coming from a suburb so that suburban places might qualify? The reason I ask is that I'm looking at openings on Opentable and I see that Michael, in Winnetka, has an opening for two at 6:00. Michael is one of the very best contemporary American restaurants in the entire area.

Finding a reservation may depend on how flexible you are on time; there are a lot more good places with openings at 5:00 or 9:00 than say at 7:30. For example, Opentable shows these openings for two in the city: Hearty (5:30, 9:00), Kiki's (6:00), Mexique (5:00, 8:00), MK (5:30), Naha (8:45), Perennial (5:15); and in the northern suburbs: Gabriel's/Highwood (5:30), Inovasi/Lake Bluff (5:30, 8:30), Mitchell's Fish Market/Glenview (5:15, 8:15).

We are open to anything up from the French Market. I figured north of that since we live in the far northern suburbs. I'll have to check out Michael's website. Thanks!

Michael is really wonderful. Their website is www.restaurantmichael.com

Also, if you have not yet been to Inovasi (in Lake Bluff), it's also excellent. I had dinner there last night, and have not yet had a chance to write up a report, but it was outstanding in every way. www.inovasi.us
