Upper West Side Indian or Szechwan

Out-of-towners visiting with family group ISO good Indian or Szechwan on West Side from 40th Street (or so) north to 90th Street (or so). Need not be fancy, just tasty.

Szechuan Gourmet would fit the bill: two locations... the first is slightly south of your target area (in the 30s, I think)... but there's a second location on 56th between 8th/Broadway.

Indus Valley on Broadway at 100th Street is a great choice - well above average for a neighborhood Indian and a real neighborhood fav.

Is it much better than Indian Cafe? (which is decent, but not great, but Indus Valley is a bit more expensive.) Would like to try it for delivery sometime since we don't live too far. Are they good with delivery or dine-in is better?

Much better than the Indian Cafe and delivery is very good.

i ordered delivery from Indus Valley a couple nights ago...i've liked it very much in the past but this time i thought it was ok, but not great...chana masala was the best dish and the only one i'd order again...saag paneer was borderline bad (tasteless and vaguely florescent)...chicken chat starter was too sweet...fish malabar was eh (breaded catfish in thick yellow sauce)...roti was fine...i was disappointed...

If you are willing to hop across town but still stay uptown....Szechuan Chalet is very good. Also, one block south of your boundaries, on 39th St.....is Lan Sheng, superb Szechuan food.
