Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping South America, Central America and the Caribbean

Solo Woman in Mendoza/Buenos Aires

Hello --

Next week, I leave for 4 days in Mendoza + 4 days in Buenos Aires. I am going for business and am mixing in Mendoza for fun. However, for most of the trip I will be by myself. I would appreciate any tips and suggestions for making this trip enjoyable. Any restaurant recommendations in either city? Also, if I go by myself and bring my Kindle to read while waiting for food, will this be see as a slight to the restaurant? Price is not really an issue, and I am looking to just try what everyone thinks I should try!

Thanks in advance.

    1. I found Buenos Aires not the best city to dine for dinner while alone. There are plenty of cafe-type places where reading while dining isn't any sort of issue. If it isn't raining, you can eat outside in many of these. A place where I don't hesitate to eat alone, for a respectable inexpensive (but nothing excellent) piece of meat is El Desnivel, on Defensa, in San Telmo. Another good place to eat alone (super ultra casual) is Sr. Telmo, also on Defensa. They have great pizzas (a la parrilla - grilled). I have only spent 2 days in Mendoza, so sorry, I can't help you.
