I'm interested in trying some chapuline snacks or chapuline tacos, preferably in North County. Are there any stores or restaurants that sell these?

You can also get them at:

      El Tejate
      205 West Mission Ave.
      Escondido, CA 92025
      (760) 747-1808

I believe this restaurant is affiliated with the one at the swap meet. No offense to the swap meet (which is a really interesting place on many levels, especially around Christmas time!), BUT......
El Tejate is nice little restaurant with booths and long tables for families or larger groups. My wife and I ate there last week and enjoyed ourselves immensly. The owners are super cool and took the time to explain how they prepare their food Estilo Oaxaqueno. They serve chapulines, cesina, pure de frijol negro, mole oaxaqueno, aguas frescas, etc. etc etc........... damn, now I made myself hungry! This place is definitely worth a try.

Yep, I've had them at El Tejate. Good snack food.
