Rant on Ca Pizza Kitchen

My husband and I were shopping on Bay Street Emeryville tonight. We decided to eat at the Ca Pizza Kitchen before going home. They told us there was a 10 minute wait. The place was nearly empty. But we figured they were understaffed. We waited with others and finally we were the only ones left to be seated. We had waited a little over the 10 miinutes.

Then a couple of men came in. The staff fell all over them. " Let us be sure so and so can wait on you. We will set up the table you like". The men didn't sign up for a table as we did, did not even sit down. They chatted about a minute and then the staff said, 'Let's get you seated." And started to take them back.

We stood up, my DH asked ,"You're taking them before us, after we have waited?" The host answered, "We're just going to take them back to their table." We walked out.

It was clear no reservations were made. Staff was surprised to see these men. I have no problem with staff knowing and making over known customers. We are treated like royalty at the Hyde Street Raw Bar. But trust me, they don't put us ahead of other customers.

    They could have been Cs Pizza Kitchen execs.

      I think the rant was a little misleading--it should have been a rant on that particular branch of the franchise. In fact I would point the finger at the manager and the owner(s) of that restaurant for directly (or indirectly) condoning such behavior of the staff.

      As for it possibly being Ca Pizza Kitchen execs, I hope not. Yes, they would feel good about getting special treatment (as we all would) but did they think of what signal they would be sending? In your case it was walking out and taking the time to rant on Chowhound.

        I was just suggesting that the employee behavior the OP described could well occur if they saw executives walk in, not that the executives wanted the treatment.

          I am not sure what you mean by misleading. I thought I did identify the city and what happened to us there. I do know this is why we so rarely eat at chains. The food or the service is usually a problem. Well, except for White Castle.

        When I read the subject line I was expecting this to be about their food. We used to stop there when the kids were small and we were out at the malls. It wasn't neither awesome nor awful. After an absence of easily a decade we visited recently and it was surprisingly disappointing. It may be a Norma Desmond thing ("I am big, it's the pictures that got small") and my palate has evolved beyond CPK, but it just wasn't very good.
