Filet Mignon - Crappy Cuts or No? - moved from DC & Baltimore board

I thought I would ask for opinions here to make sure I am not having a gross over reaction :)

I used Harris Teeter's express lane service for some grocery shopping and noticed they had fillet mignon on sale, so I added some. Generally we buy our meat/seafood elsewhere but the steaks at Teeter haven't been bad in the past. Anyhow, when we took them out to cook they looked really...well fatty to me, and a lot of the silver skin was still on them.     Not properly trimmed, not true filet mignon.

    You can trim or just eat around the gristle...

      Like the earlier poster said, it is not trimmed, therefore, they can sell it on sale. A good filet should have the chain removed, fat and silver skin trimmed off. Depending on what you paid, it might still had been a good deal.
