Sri Lanka recs?
I did a search and read every thread heading since this board began in 2004 and can't find a single entry on Sri Lanka.
I'll be spending almost a month there starting on Feb 24. Does anyone have any recommendations, especially for Kandy, Galle, Negombo or Dambulla?
Thanks in advance.

I've never been to that part of the Indian sub continent. I have a few friends from there and I know that the food can be wickedly hot. There is also a great cultural diversity and you will find beef recipes and other things which would be uncommon on the mainland.
I'd love to read your report when you com back

If you want to have some traditional fare as you journey to and fro, here is a list of establishments run by the Ceylon Hotel Corporation. Usually local families stop at one of these "rest houses" to have some tea or lunch. For example, on the way to Kandy, one would always break journey at the Ambepussa rest house.

Here's a blog post that recommends a place in Kandy called Devon Hotel (which I have not tried).

Try coconut roti and onion sambol for breakfast, rice and the various spicy braised dishes (crabs in negombo) for lunch, string hoppers, plain hoppers and egg hoppers for dinner. Also try the "short eats" (patties, cutlets, chicken pies, chinese rolls) at Fab with a glass of iced coffee.

one of their known dishes is crab curry. remember to write everything down and take photos of course. it's a spicy cuisine so i hope you like chilis lots.
i used to say 'when the war is over'. well it's finally over now but is still pretty chaotic. my options for next year: Sri Lanka, Colombia, or Mendoza-Salta [the last 2 are provinces in Argentina].
