Where to buy fresh (shaped) pasta?

I'm surprising my boyfriend with dinner on Valentine's Day, and the recipe calls for fresh fusilli pasta (but I think any twisted, or shaped pasta that holds sauce well will do) but I can only find places that sell fresh, flat pasta. Any suggestions?

    1. The Garden of Eden usually carries some.

I have tried G of E's fresh tortellini and it was very brittle and dried out. Horrible.
Murray's Cheese has a few fresh shaped pasta. Not sure what shapes they carry though.

I've not had that experience at GoE, but I do always make sure the expiration date is at least a week away. Of course it will never be as good as a real pasta store's.

            2. If you want the best, you need to go to Borgatti in the Bronx. They usually have fresh cavatelli and other shapes. Outstanding! If you are looking for fresh pasta in the supermarket, you are really wasting your time, in my opinion.

                1. I would recommend Murray's. Try to get there before the weekend though, Murray's the weekend before Valentine's Day will probably be a nightmare.

                    1. You might also look into Piemonte on Grand Street - I usually just buy De Cecco there because the price is so good, but they have an assortment of fresh pastas as well.

Piemonte would also be my suggestion.

Better yet, check Russo's fresh pasta in the East Village on 11th.

There's also the previously mentioned, Rafetto's on Houston.
Bruno's, which are all over the city, are pretty good for certain things.
Fairway or Citerella in a pinch.
