Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Birthday Restaurants in nyc?

My younger sister is turning 20 and I want to take her and her friends out to eat. She wants to go to an italian restaurant around manhattan. It needs to be fun, maybe nice decoration or themed. I really don't know that many places so I'm open for any suggestions, where a 20 yr old might want to go.
main dishes $20-$30 around that price range.

    1. How many people? Your younger sister is turning 20, but are any of her friends 21 or older? Would they want to drink? Wine, cocktails, beer?

around 7 or 8 people. A few of her friends are 21 and they would like to drink. But thats not really a main concern. She just wants a nice place, with good food (maybe good gnocchi, she loves that stuff) And she definitely wants to be dressed up.

          • You could try Locanda Verde in Tribeca, its a relatively new, trendy Italian restaurant. I personally love the Cipriani Downtown in Soho, the food is great and there is a pretty good scene/vibe at peak hours. Da Silvano is the same idea at Cipriani Downtown. Though I prefer the decor at Cipriani (Da Silvano is a bit more "Traditional Italian" while the Cipriani Downtown is more extravagant and modern) both have similar atmospheres and serve great Italian food.

If you're doing lunch as opposed to dinner I personally enjoy Nello's. Some despise the place due to the absurd prices (a plate of pasts is $40 on average), but the atmosphere is great and the food is excellent (try the Napoleon for dessert if you're there).

Also, all the restaurants I mentioned are great for both lunch & dinner (with the exception of Nello's which I personally prefer more during lunch hours).
