Vegetarian-friendly formal dinner
Where can a fearless but desiring vegetarian and omnivore have a scandalously decadent dinner in Portland? It should be the kind of place where jeans are absolutely inappropriate and the food dazzles in taste and plating. Money is no object, location doesn't matter, and a completely vegetarian restaurant is not preferred. I’m currently looking at Nostrana and Andina but yearn for something fancier… where can I find the best?
We just took a friend to Andina for her 50th b'day, and it was a great experience....they had a lot of veggie friendly food and we had a terrific waitress...friendly and proffessional..so far the best service I have had in Portland. The noise level was a bit high, but it was a happy vibe. I don't usually eat high end.
I was checking out the menu at Paley's place, and at Metrovino...but I haven't been there..
You may want to check in @portlandfood.org, there is a lot of knowledge there...
With enough planning, most of the higher end places can turn out a great meal for you and your veggie (and sometimes vegan) dining partner. Call ahead and ask for what you need and see what they can do.
Overall, though, just going with an on-menu experience, I'd say that Davis Street Tavern has one of the best veggie-friendly menus in town at the higher end.
And really, the higher end is not really all that high here. Our best (IMO) high end restaurant, Sel Gris, is not open due to fire in the building - your next best choices are probably Davis Street, ten-01, Castagna and Genoa.
I like Nostrana a lot but it is not formal.
OK, here's another idea: if cost is truly not important, have a high end caterer do the dinner for you at your home or deliver it to a lovely hotel suite.
