Mystic CT

  • 7

Hello all - We are considering a trip to Mystic CT (to the aquarium) and are looking for ideas on great places to eat - It will be my wife, myself, and out twin eight year old daughters. Mexican, italian, american pub style, and hole in the wall places are what we like the most -- If you know of any great places please let me know!

    1. I wholeheartedly agree with Milagro. You won't find anything better. It is approximately a 15 minute drive from the aquarium.

      1. I love Noah's. Casual atmosphere. Really good food. And the people who work there care.

        1. Agree on Milagro and Noah's. Also good are Olio in Groton and Tony D's for Italian in New London.

          1. We love Rice Spice Noodles, a great pan-Asian restaurant, which is family friendly. Your kids might like the Thai pineapple fried rice served in a pineapple! There are some good ice cream places downtown (not exactly the weather for it, but . . .) I agree about Olio in Groton. Love that food. There's lots of good food in the New London-Groton-Mystic area.

            1. Brendan, everyone is giving excellent choices and these are really good places. BUT if you're going to the aquarium and you're not from the area I suggest you stay in the Mystic area and near the squarium because there are great places to eat right there by the water in the picturesque town of Mystic ( the area shown in the movie with the bridge). My advice is after the aquarium make a left turn at that light at the bottom of the hill and drive into the town - it's only a mile or two - and park and walk around. There are several choices there and most are nice with good views/atmosphere. Anthony J's for one. There's a Italina restaurant by the Whaler's Inn (near flag pole at beginning of town) that is recommended by major newspapers. Walk futher in and eat at AZU's (? I'm not sure how it's spelled but it's 3 letters and starts with an A and I've eaten lobster mac & cheese there and it was awesome). There's a pub style eatery and the Oyster House which is very good eats and outside dining when the weather is warm.

My theory is keep it simple and you'll be happy eating in most places around there. Also for breakfast you'd be hard pressed to find a better spot then Kitchen Littles which is right on the river (very small place) and about a half a mile from the Aquarium if that's a starting point for you.

AZU is great. I agree there's enough great stuff in Mystic, although Stonington is beautiful. Also, Somewhere in Time is great for breakfast, although a bit off the beaten path.
