Long Shot- Macarons in Tampa?

Can anyone tell me if there is such a place in the Tampa Bay Area that sells French Macarons? I've been dying to get my hands on some. Thanks!

Sophie's French Bakery in Hyde Park Village, Tampa, has French macarons. I think there were about four flavors. They are okay - a good crisp/chewy meringue and decent creme.

Maybe I'm pointing out the obvious to you who are more familiar with bakery goods, but we are talking about French "macarons" (note the spelling), which are constructed like an oreo cookie (but taste much different), not "macaroons" (note the spelling), a crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside coconut cookie? I like them both, but obviously "macaroons" are not hard to find, just "macarons."

Thanks guys for all your feedback, I finally had some this past Fall in New Orleans at Sucre, but looked foward to having a selection close by, so I will try the St.Pete, Palm Harbor and Clwtr locations then. Thanks!

I also think TeBella Tea Company on Davis island carries the same ones Datz carries.

TeBella actually carries macarons (and cupcakes) from Chocolate Pi, Datz gets theirs ordered from somewhere else.

It's in St. Pete, not Tampa, but Cassis bakery (part of Cassis Brasserie on Beach Drive) makes macarons. They are pretty good, but not La Duree quality. :-)

The macarons at Datz were originally a stale disaster. They have started to freeze them and they are actually pretty good. They thaw instantaneously and keeps them pretty fresh.

I saw them a couple weeks ago when we ate at Cassis, they looked great!

Datz had them when I was there last night, $1.70 each. They were good, but hardly what I had at winefest from the former owner of Chocolate Pi. They were more crunchy like cookies than crispy & soft.

She's not the former owner, she's the current owner =) Chocolate Pi is still very much in business, and making macarons still (but by order only).

Chocolate Pi, on MacDill near Bay to Bay, does. They make their own, actually.

It's a haul, but there is a place on St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota that is very good.

Checked out Le Macaron in Sarasota this weekend. Those little cookies are amazing. I've only had them once before at the Bouchon Bakery in Vegas. Le Macaron is great. Cool little place with owners who are passionate about what they are doing.

Just another vote for le macaron in St. Armands Circle. They have a website www.lemacaron-us.com and here's a URL to some pictures I took of their treats: http://www.flickr.com/photos/utteramb...

They sell pastries and house-made chocolates, and make wedding cakes, too. You could Google this kind of thing next time, but here you go:

Bad news: Chocolate Pi has closed shop. I live very near there. The sign on the door says - For Lease.

I think she does all the stuff at Datz, across the stree, so you may want to check there. Pane Rustica used to make macaroons... when I worked there. I think Delize might too.

Oh, that IS too bad. It was always so expensive, I wondered how it survived. Top-notch quality, though.

I hung out with the previous owner of Chocolate Pi a couple days ago at Bern's Winefest, she was a sweetheart and made some KILLER macaroons. Even with my palate half wrecked from dozens of different wines, they were spectacular. They had the most perfect mix of textures (slight sugar coating crunch with delicate thin layer of pastry and nice layer of jam/ganache/etc) and flavors. Great, now I have something else to get a "hankerin" for haha.

I agree, that macaron spread at the winefest was amazing. Since Chocoloate Pi owner Kim Yelvington is now the pastry chef at Bern's Steak House, is it possible macarons are on the dessert room menu?

Actually Chocolate Pi has NOT closed shop. They've just closed the retail store front on Macdill, and are open by appointment. They still make everything they used to (especially macarons!! =)), but through order only.
I have heard rumors that they are in the process of opening a new retail store soon though, so that should be good.
