No Frills Location open at 8am on Sunday?

  • 6

Just moved to Avenue and Eglinton from Downtown. I used to shop at the Carlaw and Gerrard No Frills location on Sunday mornings between 8 and 9am and I now I realize how good I had it! Not only was that a FABULOUS No Frills franchise in terms of size and product selection but no I can't find a location around here that it open before 9am! I've tried the following locations with no luck:
1. Dufferin and Eglinton
2. Avenue Road south of Wilson
3. Oakwood and St. Clair (on Alberta)

Anyone know of a No Frills in this the neck of the woods that is open early on Sunday? I'm almost to the point of driving back to Carlaw and Gerard so anything closer would be appreciated!

  1. Okay, it opens on 9AM on Sunday but the No Frills at Eglinton and Victoria Park is better than the other options listed (I've never been to the Carlaw/Gerrad location). It opens at 8AM on Saturdays though if that helps.

    1. Dickie's No Frills at VP and Eglinton is probably the best No Frills in Toronto, much better than Carlaw and Gerrard. They have a bigger selection, more consistent stock control, and fresh meat and fish service counters.

If that 8:00 opening hour is critical, Carlaw/Gerrard (I didn't realize they were open before 9:00) is by far your best choice.

I don't know anything about the Dufferin Mall No Frills. I do know that there isn't a good one anywhere near where you live.

The Dufferin Mall location is good in that it has the meat and fish counters but lousy because it's always packed and the produce is pretty weak. I'd take Dickie's over Dufferin Mall any day.

      2. Hmmm. I live close to the Carlaw No Frills and I don't share the same enthusiasm. It used to be great until a few years ago when it changed hands.

It's not about enthusiasm, it's about comparison. Carlaw did, indeed, go way downhill when it changed hands, and can't compare with what it was as Jeff, Rose, and Herb's. That said, it's one of the best in central Toronto. Try the stores on Coxwell/Gerrard or VP/St Clair for a more typical No Frills experience.

        2. Have you tried the one at Black Creek and Eglinton?? I'm not sure when it opens but it's a good one.
