Troy,MI. Tandoori Express review
I was actually gonna go to Cafe Sushi for lunch, but saw this new restaurant next door. Located on Maple in between Coolidge and Crooks in the Wal-Mart plaza. Its where the Topz burgers used to be. Funny thing is the Topz decor on the wall still isn't taken down yet.
Ordered the Chili chicken for appetizer, and for the meal was palak paneer with some naan for carbs.
Chili chicken (without gravy) was pretty tasty. Little nuggets of white chicken meet stir-fried in some onion, green peppers, and "indian" spices.
The Palak paneer was disappointing. The spinach had the texture of baby food and didn't have too much body to it. They get points for lots of palak cubes. My naan was sub-par too. Thin, and crispy instead of doughy and soft.
Overall, a very average dining experience. It does not unseat my favorite indian restaurant in this area: Royal Indian Cuisine. You guys have to try the Chicken 69 appetizer there. its Super tasty.
The Tandoori Express menu also includes the old TOPZ menu. So you can still get the old TOPZ dishes--turkey burgers, air-baked "French fries" and "onion rings", veggie burgers, etc. The Indian dishes seem to have just been added on the old TOPZ menu. Also, it's interesting to note that the Tandoori Express web site (troytandoori.com) says "operating under the name TOPZ". So maybe it's the same ownership?
Good assessment of the Indian dishes. That's pretty much exactly how I felt about it--very average, and wouldn't rush out to try again.
Interesting dishes, though are the fusion ones... Bombay lamb burgers, tandoori chicken philly... but again, very mediocre.
