Brewing beer, curing meat, or making cheese?

Irie Carribean Restaurant, Canton MI now closed.

While I was down in the area at Gabirelle's testing the philly cheese steak I decided to stop at Irie Carribean restaurant on Cherry Hill Rd in Canton for some take-away Goat Curry. I had been twice before and there was food magic going on there. Upon arrival there was a realtor's lock on the door handle and a note saying they had closed January 17th. They specifically mentioned they also have the Jamaican Jerk Pit restaurant in A2 and the website show that restaurant under the www.irierestaurant.com name. Don't know the A2 restaurant but driving to Canton from Bloomfield was worth it.

Sigh. They were my dinner stop on the 2nd Tue of every month.

Anyone have a recommendation for a nearby alternative?

Darn. Liked that place. Have only been to the Jerk Pit in AA once since they took it over, but found the food similar. For another cheap, satisfying ethnic place in Canton, try Matsuchan, a Japanese noodle house in the center off the east side of Sheldon, north of Ford.

Do *not* try the curry dish at Matsuchan. I had that the last time I went there, and it was just horrible. Not saying not to go there...but avoid that dish like the plague.

The sushi isn't very good, either. It's all about the noodle soup.

You're right about the sushi, too. I remember it being pretty lousy, come to think of it. In retrospect, I think that the curry dish may have been one of the noodle soups...but I can't remember for sure. This was back in October or November.

I guess the basic thrust I was getting at is not to order curry there. That's all.

Have you tried these other Canton options yet?

          Jamaica Jamaica is long gone.
