Best Real Cantonese food in Boston Area

I grew up in Brookline 30 years ago, and have fond memories of the comforting no frills Cantonese restaurants in Boston and Brookline. The Good Earth on Tyler Street and one on Beacon Street whose name I cannot recall. Anyway, I live in New York now, Sichuan Hunan etc. Going to be in town in March and need to know where real old style Cantonese food can be found. Thanks!

    1. The Good Earth...boy does that bring back memories from when I use to go shopping with my mother and grandmother at "the basement"(Filenes). We use to meet my dad for lunch, because he worked downtown. Unfortunately, there really aren't any that remind me of it. In Dedham, the Tahiti use to be good years ago, but has slid downhill over the last 10-20yrs. I'd be interested to see what the chowhounders come up with.

Every time we drive by the Tahiti we are tempted to go in just to see what the story is ...

          • For diner-style Cantonese food, my go-to place is Great Taste. I grew up in Hong Kong and I think their comfort food is the best and most authentic.

what are your favorite dishes there? Thanks

I like the beef brisket/beef tendon noodle soup. Some of the rice dishes are good too - I think tofu w/chicken. And the clay pot rice - perfect for winter months. Since I usually dine there solo, I haven't been able to try out too many dishes.

                  2. you're better off hitting the restaurants in NYC's Flushing neighborhood IMHO. We make the trek down there annually for the US Open and pig out there :-)

But here, give Peach Farm a try, but they'll kick you out if it gets too busy, so I go there only for food and not to hang out w/ people and chat....
