Black Salt has fish market. River Falls Seafood is spendy and good.

Depends on what you are looking for. Crabs and oysters could be found in Baltimore suburbs, I go to crab places in Pasadena/Glen Burnie area. In season, they have Maryland crabs. Frank's at Jessup has okay fish selection. The wholesale fish market is nice if you buy a lot. Large Asian chains also has excellent and fresh fish selection (such as super grand mart in Laurel). Live dungeness crabs and lobsters could be had reasonably (<<10 dollars a pound) wthout hype. If you are looking to shop a fancy store, pay multiples for the decor, feel like you are a privileged somebody and get a more "mainstream" selection cleanly pre-filleted in a cooler, then River Falls market and Blacksalt is your way to go. But I think you can get similar selection at your local Whole Foods in PA. More down to earth version is the fish market at Eastern Market. After many trips, I don't find the service and freshness worthy of the trip or price. The only thing I can't get in the Asian market is dry scallops, that has to be obtained from your Whole Foods or Eastern market. I started out with Whole Foods and the fancy markets. I just got my red snappers Friday at Grand Mart for 2.99 a pound (not on sale). I recall paying three times that much for this "fancy" fish elsewhere. I enjoyed my very fresh snapper but I certainly did not buy the special feeling of a priviledged class at Grand mart.

Do you know if by "morning's catch" they mean a fisherman went out that morning, caught the fish, and sold it to them the same morning? I've just started getting serious about seafood and found so much at the Jessup markets is usually 2 days old and brought in from other countries. I keep seeing those food shows featuring fresh fish caught locally that same day. I'm hoping it's not just a fantasy. Baltimore is pretty close to water after all, right?

I have no idea where Conrad's gets their fish, it always looks very fresh to me and I know in season they catch their own crabs so maybe they have a fisherman connection.

I have confirmed from them (Conrad) that they offer fish caught by the owner the very same day as well as "other" fish.

A pricey but absolutely spectacular option for delivery is Browne Trading Company. If it's good enough for Eric Ripert, it's good enough for me. For New Year's, the diver scallops (true diver, not just dayboat) were the best I've ever had.

H-Mart is a chain of asian supermarkets and there is one on Route 40 at Rolling Road. They have a huge selection of fresh fish with at least 20 different types laid out on ice and fish mongers to clean, scale, filet or make chops. Also great for fresh fruits and veggies. Not to beat prices.
