Northern Indian mkts & restaurants peninsula or south bay?

It seems like the Indian markets I've visited in the peninsula or south bay stock mostly southern Indian products. Suggestions are appreciated for markets (pen or sb) that focus on northern Indian products. This is for a friend from Delhi visiting for the year.

Also, any recommendations for restaurants (northern style cooking)? Thanks!

    1. Surprised to hear you say that since I can only think of one grocery store that I think is S.Indian & that too I'm not sure as I think there was a change of ownership. Here are some suggestions...

-Kumud Groceries - Cupertino (good selection of vegetables, one of the better ones)
-India Cash & Carry - Sunnyvale (one of the largest stores & a zoo on weekends)

-Patel Brothers - Santa Clara (haven't been to this one but the one on Devon Ave. in Chicago is a well oiled machine with a pickle bar, snack bins, etc.)

Namaste Plaza - Mountain View (recently DH picked up a package of fresh rotis in a clear plastic bag that were utterly delicious but unfortunately with no name on it
)Lakshmi Bazaar - San Jose (on Moorpark near Lawrence)

Restaurants: Hyderabad House*, Darbar, Ajanta - Palo Alto (*good value)

Chaat Paradise (veg), Amber(upscale), Amber Cafe - Mtn. View

Rajjot - Sunnyvale (small cafe, more homestyle N.Indian, nice parathas)

Shan - IndoPak in Sunnyvale & Cupertino (new location) - had the best
achari chicken recently after a long time
Zafran & Kabab and Curry's - IndoPak in Santa Clara
Shalimar - IndoPak in Sunnyvale but the one in Fremont is *much* better

For exploring, Fremont offers great chaat inside Dana Bazaar, a huge grocery store & looks like Bombay Express Cafe just opened. The latter is a veg. chaat cafe that offers "modern Indian street food" including veg. tandoori dishes.

I am sure I've left a place or two out but hope this will get your friend started.

        1. My SO and I checked out Chaat Paradise last night and had an absolutely delicious meal! I particularly enjoyed the sprout bhel -- crunchy and full of flavor.
