Hicksville Dosa Diner $9.95 Vegetarian brunch packs a punch

While enjoying brunch recently at this busy spot, I completely forgot it was vegetarian. All I knew was that every dish was a winner, which almost never happens at buffets, veggie or not. Friendly attentive service and unlimited fresh dosa and uttapam sealed the deal.

Seemed to be a big notch or two above typical Hicksville fare (including House of Dosas which is down the block, don't confuse the two, this one's way betterer!)

Afterwards, shop in the very well stocked, reasonably priced grocery right next door. Made a wonderful soup this week with some tiny gourmet quality split peas they were selling for next to nothing there. Great store!

  1. Even though we got there at 2:45, just as the buffet was closing, and the dishes were not quite as fresh as they ought to have been (from sitting out on the buffet for a while) it was easy to see the quality and flavor of these dishes. Service was lovely: all the different kinds of dosas were patiently explained to us, and several of the dishes on the buffet were refreshed, even though it was past closing time. I can't wait to go back--next time I will get there earlier, when everything is fresh and just out of the kitchen. And it's vegetarian!

The grocery next store was interesting, but maybe I'm a little spoiled since there's a Patel Bros. store 15 minutes away from me, and it's a little more comprehensive.

Just as an FYI, there is a Patel Brothers right down the block 2-3 minutes away by car

Patel Bros has become a favorite stop when in the area

    2. Had the buffet at lunch today - agree with everything you said. Food was fresh and tasty. I'm stuffed and need a nap.
