Add a Restaurants or Bar Bug

I can't add new places to the database. ("We are having app problems right now. Please try again later.")

Is this feature actually functional yet? I've tried for days now.

Just tried again. I tried to add a new listing (Box1: Chuan Xiang Ge; Box2: 8211 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC).

It now complains:
"The address fields needs to include address, city and state. Try to be more precise or check the spelling."

It's clearly a bug.

With all due respect to the CH 'programmers', the Error Message NEEDS TO BE MORE PRECISE wrt the submitted data. Sheesh.

Yep, I got the same message when I tried to add:

But here's a workaround: The site's uncooperative with some NYC addresses, but if you try changing city and state, it might let you enter a record.

I was able to add a new place on Stanton St. on the Lower East Side by entering the street address but changing the city to Chicago, IL. The site switched the city to Batavia but did create a new record. Then in editing it, I corrected the city, state and zip ... http://www.chow.com/restaurants/91525...

The name in the record didn't come up when I entered "international" in the search bar. Confusingly/unfortunately, the store seems to do business under 2 names, but the one on the sign over the store itself just says "International Grocery", I think.

Needless to say, it doesn't explain the false-positive database error.

When you switch then switch back on the city and state, does the new place appear in the correct region roll-up? In the past, it did not, but maybe that has changed.

Region roll-up ... I'm not aware of that attribute or field. It doesn't seem to be editable or visible on place records. What does it do?

Sorry, I don't know what else to call this list that appears when you click "see all" from the New York City restaurants & bars page.

There's no field to select, and consequently some spots are auto-assigned to the wrong region.

As far as what it does, for the SF Bay Area board, unless the record is assigned to the region, it is impossible to link it from the message board. I'm having that problem with records for the town of Gilroy now. Other records have been misassigned when I edited the city, state fields and could not be linked from posts on that board.

I was able to correct a few 'wrong region' places by changing their Zip Code. Why an blatantly wrong one gets entered, who knows.
In LA city entering the correct zip code can be extremely important due to identical street names in different communities of the city.

It (the name/address box that pops up when you select "add a restaurant"), would never accept what I put in (and I tried everything!).
It kept telling me, "The address fields needs to include address, city and state. Try to be more precise or check the spelling."
I don't know how to be more precise.
EDIT: It worked for Balducci's when I created/added a restaurant as a link in a post.

It seems some locations can be added, others can't. I was just able to enter this new record for Brooklyn, NY: http://www.chow.com/restaurants/915246/fornino

Minutes later I was unable to enter a new Manhattan record. Same problem: I furnished an address, city and state, but still got the message saying the site needed address, city and state.

I've been able to add restaurants (thanks, CH!) but they don't show up in the browsing database, only if you search the specific name, not if you just search cuisine type. If you search blank in "Calgary" it still only says "Showing 1 to 15 of 117 results". Does it take a while to add to the browsing list?

Where do you even add them? Lots of my favorite places here in Brampton (Canada) aren't in the engine when I make threads about them, but can't figure out how to add them

Lots of restaurants have been added lately, so it's not a general problem.

Give me the details of what you're trying to add, and I'll see if it works for me. Addresses outside of the US are sometimes tricky, though usually Canadian ones haven't given me a lot of problems.

This the format I follow when I type in an address into the entry fields, eg:

"S & W Pepper House"
"6820 No. 3 Rd, Richmond, BC"

I tried a couple more and it still doesn't work for me. I also tried excluding "BC" just in case...I do notice it autofills "BC, Canada".

Tried again this morning. Still doesn't work for me. Giving up. I'll just add new addresses in-line with the text henceforth.

I get that message occasionally. I've always assumed it was some sort of disconnect with the servers. Usually I just het add again immediately and it goes through.

On a silly hunch, I tried to add one with quotes ... who knows ... maybe the quotes were in there, but no problem. It went through.

Thanks rworange. I haven't been able to add anything at all even if I try multiple times with different permutations of text. I'll give quoting a shot.

I thought maybe the problem might have been that you were already using quotes.

I've had the problem you mention, but for me it is really rare, maybe once or twice a month. It doesn't happen every time like it does for you.
