We'll be in Goodyear, AZ next week. Anything or anyplaces not to be missed? Would love to find some great Mexican food or great local cuisine.

The benchmark for Mexican in Goodyear is Raul & Theresa's, I think. They are one of the few places here that serve carne seca (sort of a sun-dried preparation, much more common down south). It's a colorful and comfortable building and they make everyone welcome. You'll see a lot of people who are obviously regulars.

If you don't mind going a bit north, there's good sushi in Litchfield Park. Katana carries real wasabi, but you have to ask for it with a wink and a smile. Nearby is Dino's Greek & Italian Grill, which I think is terrific both for red sauce Italian and their roast lamb platter and other Greek dishes. For small plates, wine, craft brews, gelato, and fresh roasted coffee there's Ground Control, there, as well, with live bands Saturday nights.

Way out west at Verrado there's an outpost of Grazie Pizzeria, which has an all-Italian wine list and only an $8 markup for corkage for any wine they carry. They source their tomatoes and cheeses from Italy, but support local farmers for whatever they can.

Hope that helps, and that you enjoy your time here!

themis - where is Katana? I haven't heard of that one before. In the area, I'm only aware of blu, Tomo, Nakama, Takamatsu, Ah-So, Akaihana, and Ichiban...

I'm sorry, I must have meant Nakama. I moved from the area two years ago, but as no one else was responding, I thought I would try to assist the poster in my clumsy fashion. Although Ichiban had already closed in Litchfield Park by the time I had left, so I didn't mention that one.

Keep 'em coming folks. We've signed a contract on a house farther west, in the Sundance community in Buckeye, and I'm already starting to mourn our favorite restaurants (not to mention our favorite stores, our doctor, our lawyer, our accountant, our dentist etc etc), all within five miles of our current home. We're going to have to extend our Travel Zone by many, many miles, so anything in the Goodyear, Avon, Litchfield Park areas is of interest to us.
