Szechuan in Auckland
I posted earlier about Khyber Pass Road, have not had a chance to explore it yet, but now I have a specific craving: top notch Szechuan. We have no food limitations and are willing to pay a reasonable amount. We are just fine with dives. Our goal is optimal deliciousness. For some perspective, I am a New Yorker by birth and have been living in Auckland CBD for about 2 months. We do not have a car so it needs to be bus-able (sometimes we rent a car so suggestions requiring driving are fine too).

The upscale Sichuan place is HP8 on Nuffield St in Newmarket (not the one on Carlton Gore, which is yum cha). The water-boiled fish I had on my first visit was one of the best dishes I've ever had in a restaurant; last time I went (July) it wasn't quite so revelatory but still very good. Rumour has it that someone from HP8 moved to Sichuan Steamboat in Panmure, so that might be a cheaper option.
