Reasonably Priced Night Out/ Newton/Cambridge/Brookline

My fiance and I go out often and are looking for something new and exciting for this Saturday night. In the mood for a new hip place that's reasonably priced. Not picky about the type of food but not really looking for an ethnic joint. Some of our favorites include Garden in the Cellar in Cambridge, Cambridge One, The Local in Newton, West Side Lounge and the bar menu at Chez Henri.

Thank you very much everyone for the suggestions. We decided to go to the Highland Kitchen last night. It was exactly what we were looking for. We both had great meals. I loved the buffalo brussel sprouts!!!! Sounds funky but very good if you like something spicy. We will definitely try some of the other places down the road.

Sun1234 and I will hit the Highland Kitchen this evening, thanks all. How about this oldie but goody: Washington Square Tavern in Brookline.

I would rank Highland Kitchen higher than both Tupelo and Lord Hobo as far as food. As far as a scene and cocktails, you could also consider Trina's Starlite Lounge. I liked their food better than Lord Hobo's, but not quite as well as HK. To clarify: HK>Starlite=Tupelo>LH

I had the prix fixe at TW food the other week. $39 for three courses. Very reasonable, I thought. Rendezvous has a similar deal, but only on Sundays.

Highland Kitchen and Tupelo are both great, and both great suggestions. Emma's pizza is a more casual option that I have found to be consistently good (though there is often a wait). Across the street (roughly) is Hungry Mother, also not insanely pricey.

I LOVE Hungry Mother - I had an excellent meal there last week (shrimp with grits, catfish, and the best sticky toffee pudding) and am going there tonight as well... Highly recommend it.

Not quite on the level food/decor wise of the places you mention but I LOVE Buff's Pub. Their specials are really good.

Also, for possibly the best place in this entire genre, and one of my all around favorites in Boston, hit the Franklin Cafe in the South End.

I would recommend Tupelo in Cambridge. It was delicious and very reasonably priced. In addition, 51 Lincoln offers some great fare that's not too pricey. Orinocco in Brookline Village is great--as is Pomodoro (cash only)-- but you need to get there before 7pm if you don't want to wait too long.

Tupelo is an excellent suggestion. I have not been yet, but I desire to.

Reaching a little further in that direction, you might also consider Lord Hobo.

Thanks for the 51 Lincoln - looks like a gem!
