Ideas for a vegetarian valentines dinner?

We are thinking of going to Samar's for valentine's day, but I'm wondering if there are any other restaurant suggestions for us?

  1. If you want to go to Samar, please call them for reservations. They have a special couples menu Saturday and Sunday, but you must make the reservations to get the special. The cost is 50 or 75 with wine pairings. This is the only time they have accepted reservations. Nice, eh?

I will most likely be there tomorrow night...

    1. The places that do prix-fixe could do vegeterian friendly dishes as well, so you may want to call around to ask. I'm actually considering taking my girlfriend to Kalachandji's for valentine's day, everything there is vegetarian.

      1. I'm actually hoping for Prix Fixe. Does anyone have recommendations for good restaurants offering Prix Fixe and I'll call them up to see if they would do a special vegetarian menu?

You might call Cafe Izmir; their vegetarian platter is very good (even if I am not a vegetarian). They aren't typically open on Sunday's, but may be open for Valentine's Day.

Also, Tramontana is having a special Price Fixe dinner with two seatings, I saw. You might call Chef James to see if he can accomodate a special vegetarian menu.

        2. Thanks. I'll check out Izmir and compare with Samar!

Whatever you do, wherever you go, know that the city will be inundated by the NBA and fans in addition to the usual hubbub and goings on associated with Valentines Day. I think I will be in hiding at Step Up or Windmill plotting a hangover.

Unless you have reservations or know someone, this could prove a difficult weekend.
