anybody check out the food court lately?lots of filipino booths there.has anyone tried them?any favorites?id like to try but dont know where to start.adventure is fine with me.

gonna bump this one again ,and a slight highjack but seeing as how i started this i forgive myself .i worked this summer with a guy from manila who introduced me to "barrio fiesta"on memorial and 68th ne.awesome filipino food.diniquan is goooood.

howlin, I second babettes feast reply, you had kare-kare. some times it's oxtail other times its pig hock really depends on what you have but it's thick peanuty sauce with meat & veg stew style. I like it anyway

Slightly off topic but I stumbled across a great little Filipino take-out place called Lolit's located in the awesomely named Short Pants Plaza (306 255 28 St. S.E.). They have a daily lunch special of your choice of either pancit or rice and two mains for $6.99. Really great value and the food was fantastic. I had the Pork Adobo and the Beef Kaldereta with the pancit. Really good.

I shouldn't let this out of the bag but peek into Lolit's small deep freeze in the corner and if they have inventory in, their ice cream selection is great. They carry the Fruits in Ice Cream brand - i've tried their ube (purple yam) and avocado flavors and both were excellent.

i was there a few days ago looking for pata but they were out .instead i had something else that i have no idea what.It had some meaty bones and lettuce in a peanutty sauce.Also came with a small cup of shrimp paste.There was some language barrier so i never did get to find out the name .wasnt to bad tho

howlin what you probably had is called kare-kare which is oxtail stew thickened with ground roasted peanuts and ground roasted glutinous rice. the usual vegetables in the stew are eggplants, sliced banana flower hearts, snake beans and chinese cabbage. colouring comes from annatto seeds and the stew is usually served with a spicy shrimp paste.
