The Source's Happy Hour Deal

  • 9
  • Share

I'm heading to The Source for the first time tonight to take part in their happy hour deal. It's $20 for 3 items on their Izakaya menu (http://www.wolfgangpuck.com/content/f...). This is a great deal for me since I'm pretty sure I couldn't normally afford a meal there.

I'm looking for recommendations on your favorite items? Also hopefully they have some yummy drinks!

  1. I was at the Happy Hour at Againn so I couldnt try this place last night. Share the experience! =D

    1. I'd like to know what you thought. The menu is really appealing to me.

The day we went it was jam packed but the food was very good. We got the sliders (delicious!!!!) and some sushi (also very good). I got a delicious drink with pear juice. It's a very good deal...more than enough to share between 2 people.

I can't wait to go back to try some more items.

Just as an FYI--the website said when I checked it that happy hour goes until 7pm. It actually only goes until 6pm.

The new menu sounds good. I was only there once ages ago when they had the old menu which I wasn't too crazy about. Maybe I will give it a try.

The place was ranked high on the Washingtonian Magazine best restaurants so we did a b'day dinner a few weeks ago. As for "First Flavors" the onion soup was a miss as were the tiny dumplings. Crispy suckling Pig with black plum puree, cipollin & sweet bean sauce was ok but not to die for.

HOWEVER, the Spicy Tuna Tartare delivered in a neat sesami-miso cones ROCKS!!! You get three to a serving and I could have gone for another order if I'd known how lame the other items would have been.

By the time we got to the main event, Lacquered Chinese Duckling w/Lo Mein Noodles I was getting a bit full but the skin was nice and meat ok. It went home fine and was not too bad the next day. The little lady had the Pork Chop that we both thought was a bit to rare (I'm talking raw!) but you know wolfgang is oh so trendy. Best be clear on how you like it when you order.

Drinks were good! Sorry the on-line menu does not list them so I can't recall what the heck I had.

Yeah, those tuna cones are great. Otherwise, I've been mystified by the very high praise of this place. The dishes tend to be about as good at you'd get at a very good Asian restaurant at about 10x the price.

      2. I also went recently for their 3-course lunch deal (also a steal!) and had the burger. It...is...amazing! Probably one of the best burgers in town. Certainly the closest competition to Palena's burger that I've come across. I highly recommend it.

Now I need to add the source to my list for a burger. Unfortunately, my cheeseburger at Palena last night was really underwhelming. I go every so often and just get the burger. This time, it was dissappointing. The patty seemed thrown together haphazardly, it was overcooked, the pickled vegetables were from the bottom of the jar, and the cheese slice was pretty small. I will get my burgers elsewhere for a while. Fortunately, I can't ever turn down the consomme and gnocchi at Palena.

Has anyone been here for the happy hour deal lately? Is it still really packed?
