First visit ever from my dear sister from New England

I would like to take her somewhere at least somewhat special or colorful or unusual for lunch this coming Friday. Word is that it will rain that day. Could someone kindly suggest a place.

Mike

If it does not rain we will be on the open air double decker sightseeing bus for a couple of hours in the AM.

Zuni Cafe is one of my "goto" lunch spots. Take the "F" up Market to set the table.

Besides the Ferry Bldg, I was thinking may be Chez Papa Bistrot or nearby Chez Maman. Haven't been but from what I've read here, sounds like cute/different options for lunch in the City.

You could go to Slanted Door and get the sit down experience, and also the Ferry Building one Love Slanted Door, though I haven't been in a while.

To answer your question about Piperade, I've been there quite often over the years and always liked it, but never been blown away. But always a crowd pleasr and a very easy menu for even the pickiest eater to order off of. I've only been there for dinner, however.

Slanted Door would be my top pick.

Edited to add... Slanted Door has gotten expensive... more than $25/p... in that case Boulevard (which is also going to be $30/p before tax and tip) is exceptional for lunch.

Ferry Building? There would be lots of choice, and it might be something a bit different, and you could do a progressive lunch... start with champagne and cold cuts at the wine store, then oysters at Hog Island, something at Mijita or Taylor's Refresher, finish with Ciao Bella gelato or Scharfenberger chocolate as you're walking around. Stunning views, too, and indoors even if it rains.

Thank you for the Ferry Building tip, but I want a place where we would sit down and share meaningful conversation.

Price range: without drinks, $50 for two.

            How good is Piperade?

            Others?

On non-market days, the Ferry Building is still filled with permanent sit-down restaurants, shops, and take-away counters. If Boulette's Larder will have their tables set up on Friday, that would be my first choice and it would come in right around $50 for two, excluding drinks. The building is definitely a special and unusual collection of food-related shops that could all be explored even in the rain.

            General geographic area? Price range?
