Ice Cream near West Hempstead

I've been in this town for entirely too long and haven't found a really great mom-and-pop type ice cream parlor. I want hard ice cream, good hot fudge and real whipped cream. What are some good places fairly close to West Hempstead to get my classic sundae? I feel like there should be something in Malverne, but I don't get out enough to find anything.

Well, there's Frozen Cup ice cream stand on Hempstead Tpk in Floral Park Queens, on top of the hill on the north side just west of Little Neck Parkway. Great summer ice cream spot, but not sure if it is open or closed this time of year.

Were there two locations? The Frozen Cup on Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose, there for 50 years, closed, permanently:

1. Itgens in Valley Stream
2. Hildebrandts in Williston Park. A time machine from trhe '30's with a great old counter, swivel stools and made on premises ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream. They also make an excellent burger.

Went to Itgen's last night. Delicious! My black raspberry ice cream had wonderful flavor and the REAL whipped cream not out of a can is to die for. Not to mention that the kid was really smart and, since I got my ice cream to go, he put the hot fudge in a cup on the side so it wouldn't melt the ice cream. I had some fudge left over and am eating it now. It's incredible.

I'd like to respond to my own question in case anybody else reads this. Check out The Hollow Creamery in Carle Place. Wooowzers! Delicious ice cream. Try the cannoli flavor!
