Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Quebec (including Montreal)

Montreal in March

I am traveling to Montreal in March. I will be staying @ the Fairmont. I am looking for restaurant recs for lunch and dinner. I am interested in the following:

- places that offer salads/vegetarian options for lunch
- great places for cheese
- dinner options that are inexpensive (entrees under $10-15)
- must-go spots that are unique
- one special dinner place (expensive)

I am not interested in Asian or Indian food.

Thanks!!

    1. Vegetarian : Aux Vivres (vegan), Commensal (vege&vegan buffet, can be expensive price set by the weight of the plate), Santropol for huge sandwiches (and salad?) vege friendly...
Cheese : La buvette Chez Simone (?)
Cheap Dinner: I think there's a thread about inexpensive places recently, but mostly oriented itself towards asian-ish places (mid-eastern included)
Must go : (personal recent fav.) "3 petits bouchons", Reservoir, Bouchonné (yeah, I still like it from time to time, but it's been a while since I went there), Lemeac, Buvette Chez Simone, Cuisine/Dépendance, Café Italia (for coffee), Café Neve (for coffee)
Special Dinner : I'd go to Europea or La Chronique (raving reviews from a couple of friends for both places) or 5eme Peché or DNA (for their good Canadian wine list) or Club Chasse et Pèche.

        1. Cheese: I'd whole-heartedly encourage you to just make a stop at the Atwater Market and wonder around. A HUGE variety. Many people have there favorites, but it's usually best to take a few extra moments and take them all in. There's a couple on the first floor and a few on the second. You'll also tick off what is usually considered a 'Montreal Must See' (one of the Markets). Enjoy.

Special Dinner: I'd recommend either Le Club Chasse et Peche or Au Pied du Cochon. They both have websites and, if you Google them, you'll find quite a bit of information and thus zero in on your personal style.
