What the heck?!? What am I doing wrong with edit?

I post a response and then want to edit it...

It comes out above what I originally post.
I can't get it off or at the bottom where it's supposed to be.

Major frustration.

  1. Well,I can't even find out how to post a question, much less edit.
Is there a clue for those of us 'newbies' to the site?'

      ;-)

I think it's the New Topic button, Add New Post button or the reply button - depending on what you're wanting to do/ask.

And - rather than risk the edit button - here's a link for new Chowhounds:
      http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/367605

Welcome grangie angie! I'm happy to meet you!

      1. re: Cookiefiend

Thank you Cookiefiend,I'll give it a try!

    2. And again...

      What am I doing wrong?
Why can't I edit a typing error and now get a "t." off a post?

I have now edited this post. You have to hit save.

        1. re: mrsdebdav

          What?

I just went back and re-did the entire thing.
          How is that editing?

      2. Can you post a link to an example of where this has happened?

          Hi Jacquilynne -

http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/681377 - this post had a bunch more with it but now only has the "Three Floyd's is the best". I posted a second time with the rest.

http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/684825 - this post had the "t.", that I finally got off.

          I don't know what I'm doing wrong!

          1. re: Jacquilynne

            Sorry, I don't know of a link.
I just hit "edit", revised my entry, and hit "save." The revised post then appears.
Try it just like that and see if it works.

            1. re: mrsdebdav

And that's the way I've always done it too...

              lalalala

Now, I click/hit edit. Above what I originally posted comes the entire thing highlighted. So I 'edit' the highlighted part, hit save, and then what I added or edited shows up above the original post as part of the original post.
I cannot change the un-highlighted areas.

I'm going to try it here...

              1. re: Cookiefiend

I'm going to try it too. I'm not sure what you mean. Are you pc or mac? maybe that's the diff?

The entire thing I posted was highlighted, so I just clicked down to add this.

                1. re: mrsdebdav

                  I'm mac

And I'm wondering if that is the difference too.
                  But it shouldn't be...?

                  1. re: Cookiefiend

What browser/version are you using? There are many Mac users here, including me. I've never had a problem editing posts with Firefox. (Am using latest version, 3.6)

                    1. re: kpzoo

                      kpzoo -
                      I'm a very, very new Mac user - I really couldn't tell you what browser/version I'm using.
                      My apologies!

                      1. re: Cookiefiend

When you are surfing the web (like when you're here on Chowhound), look up at the top left of the screen, just next to the apple. What name do you see there. Safari, Firefox, Chrome, something else?

To find the version, click that menu item (the word Safari, Firefox, etc.) and select the first item from the top, that will say About Firefox or About Safari, etc. The version number will be there.

                        1. re: kpzoo

                          ...

                          Ahh - it's Safari, version 4.0.4
                          Thank you!

Does that change the way sites work?

                          1. re: Cookiefiend

I just wanted to make sure you were using a recent browser (which you are) and not something very old that might not be supported anymore by modern sites like this one. :-)

testing edit in Safari 4.0.4 to see what happens... seems to be working fine

                  2. re: mrsdebdav

Well, I think we should all share the Noble prize for blogging.
                    And I'm not editing this!

                    1. re: mrsdebdav

                      LOL!

                      I'll be your biggest fan!

              2. re: Jacquilynne

jacquilynne - I just edited a post here
Do you see what's going on?

                1. re: Cookiefiend

                  humm...

The post I edited is different than it was 2 minutes ago

                  That "lalala" was the edit
                  <giggle>

                  1. re: Cookiefiend

What's different about the 'lalalala' post than what you expected?

                    1. re: Jacquilynne

When I first posted at 9:46, the 'lalalala' wasn't there. I went back and added it - edited it. After I hit save, both the edited post and the original un-edited post were showing.

My post at 9:52 was because the original un-edited post was gone.
I think - perhaps - both are showing at first and then the un-editied post goes away.

                      That is what's happening.
It's just different than in the past - thanks for being patient with me Jacquilynne.

                      1. re: Cookiefiend

Does the duplication go away immediately if you reload the page?

                        1. re: Jacquilynne

                          I'll check with this post...

                          1. re: Cookiefiend

                            Yes - it does!

                            Thanks again Jacquilynne.

              3. There it is!
                That's what's going on!
