Buckley's on Ave. S?

I'm looking for a pub with good drinks and tasty food that's not too far (by car) from the movies in Sheepshead Bay. From the reviews, Buckley's sounds ok, but I'd love some firsthand opinions ... and/or other suggestions. Thanks, hounds.

  1. My 86 year old aunt drinks here with the girls, but that's all I know about it. Serious neighborhood joint.

    1. Underwhelming in every way

      1. Food is nothing special, drinks are o.k.

Bay Ridge is probably your best bet.

Bay Ridge is very far away. If you're willing to even consider Bay Ridge, you might want to try out Kebeer Bar and Grill in Brighton Beach (on Brighton Beach Avenue) which is half as far. It's an excellent German beer bar -- one of the best in Brooklyn, in my opinion. They have hard to find beers on tap (Krusovice, for example) and I hear the food is quite good, although I didn't try it when I was there. They have German and Uzbek options.

Bay Ridge is 10 minute ride by car off the Belt Parkway and not too far away. Parking is horrible though and depending on what time you are going the bar kitchens close around 10 to make way for the DJ and dancing. Salty Dog, Skinflints, Yellow Hook Grill are all very good. In the summer Yellow Hook Grill has outdoor seating and the kitchen is open longer than the other places.

Thank you both for the helpful Brighton & Bay Ridge info. Kebeer was already on my list to try, but it looks like we're going to stay in Sheephead Bay and have a Greek dinner at Yiasou.

        2. last time i went to buckleys was my elementary school prom (yeah, we actually had one)...this was 1991 if i recall. the 5th grade me thought it sucked...

strangely enough, there's a decent fake german food place in the lohmann's (sp?) plaza that was quite enjoyable when i went to see my folks a few weeks back...that's a great option actually.

          1. At the insistence of 2 other couples, went to Buckleys tonight. Ordered a porterhouse steak which came with awful salad and vegetable/potato. $28.95 and the worst piece of meat I've ever eaten at any price including my younger days at Tad's. Had we dined alone, it would have been sent back post-haste!

I passed on Buckleys, but thanks for reminding me about Tad's. The worst piece of meat I've had since my Tad's days was hanger steak at The Farm on Adderley -- twice. Most recently, it was an inedible mass of (rare) gristle.
