I have a houseguest who is fascinated with all things Pakistan... I'd like to take her to a couple of restaurants in or around Manhattan that will give her both a good meal and a good experience. Price no object and we would prefer a sit-down establishment as I understand many of these are many carry-out only.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Most of the Pakistani places are steam table restaurants with limited seating. I've been to a few, with Haandi being my favorite. It is not much to look at, but there aren't many other options in Manhattan otherwise. What they lack in ambiance, they make up for with good karahi gosht and chicken biryani. I often get their seekh kababs, as well; the nihari and paya, however, are forgettable as is the semolina pudding that they have for dessert. You might have better luck checking your options in Queens.
