Xi'an Famous Foods Looking To Open in West Village; Joe Ng's Dim Sum Spinoff Too

Received a tweet that Xi'an Famous Food is looking for a suitable location in the West Village. Also read that with Chinatown Brasserie moving downstairs in to the lounge area, Joe Ng is going to open up RedFarm, an innovative dim sum eatery, on Hudson. He'll supposedly remain head chef at the Brasserie, but being there only part time in reduced quarters I wonder how that will work. Not sure what these West Village locations portend. Will the food be dumbed down or will the quality hold?

    1. You gotta admire the guy for going for it. More lamb face salad is good for everyone. I wish he would come to midtown or something, west village seems kind of random.

        1. As reported in the NY Times on January 4th:

I've heard that Red Farm will also feature many non dim sum items like salads and will deliver.

I guess the question is whether this means Chinatown Brasserie's days as a destination restaurant are numbered. Sure sounds like it, being kicked downstairs and having the star chef go part time while tending to his own eatery. This would seem to potentially make RedFarm the go to place once it opens up.

It is very sad. The overall state of high-end NY Chinese cuisine is rather dismal, and the recent aborted renaissance makes this all the more glaring.
