I want to make homemade Soda-- such as Coke, Sprtie and Orange.

What Do I need to buy in order to create such a thing?

And do you have anymore book recommendations on recipes for the different types of soda that can be made?

thanks

Cola syrup is available from old-timey drug stores (to settle upset stomachs) and also from Vermont Country Store. I hear that Coke has orange undertones and Pepsi has lemon. All told, the process seems to involve simple syrup+flavoring. Ginger Ale is best with herb tincture from the health food store.

You've inspired me. I have a great soda siphon (you use a CO2 cartridge to carbonate good water) and have always used Monin syrups. They're great and they have some nice sugar free varieties but now I want to start making my own fruit syrups. When I make mojitos I usually flavor the simple syrup with lime or grapefruit so I think I will try that first. The name brand sodas seem a little ambitious though, I don't know how you would go about sourcing ingredients and making your own cola syrup!

Achiles007, you seem to want to reproduce a lot of processed foods at home. You may be disappointed that you can't achieve the exact flavors you have come to love with the name brand products. Whether it be soda or lunchmeat. Give it a whirl and see what you think.
