Izakayas like Watami near Roppongi
So we found our way to a Watami and loved our meals there. However, as we do not speak or read japanese, we have yet to fine similar experiences else where. We have searched the boards but a lot of the recommendations are for high-end izakayas. Any suggestions for more moderately priced ones with a picture, or better yet, an English menu??
We went to one down the street from the Crossing called Nishi Maru and did not think it was close to Watami on quality or deliciousness.
Other chains like Tengu and Amataro are similar to Watami in presentation and/ or quality and have branches in Roppongi.

eeew to Nishi Maru! haha
My gf went there and came back with terrible reviews and she's nowhere near as picky as I am.
If you continued past Nishi Maru you'd have hit Gonpachi which has English menus but it's a bit more expensive than Watami and such.
You could try the Gyu-kaku in Roppongi - I am almost 100% sure they have an English menu. It's yakiniku, but a fun atmosphere like Watami and also cheaply priced. It's close to the crossing, in a basement.

Gonpachi is the devil. It is my single worst food/drinks/service experience in almost 3 years Japan combined. I don't want to repeat my Gonpachi rant here (feel free to google for it in the archives), but in a nutshell it is a tourist trap of the worst kind. This place is not a D-, it's an F.
