Need a Ramen reco for downtown Van please

Hey all - I've tried a few but haven't found the perfect Ramen with those tender stretchy noodles yet. Have tried Noodle Express and also one on the far East end of Robson (some chain, can't remember the name). Am heading out for lunch today w/the bf, can anyone recommend a ramen joint not too far to walk from Granville and Pender? I don't mind at least 10 mins of walking.

Thanks 'hounds :)

  1. Have you ever been to Kintaro, Benkei or Motomachi Shokudo? They're all around Robson and Denman in the Westend, but that would be a 20 minute walk though from Granville and Pender. Not sure if you're going to find perfect ramen in that area of town...

Not sure myself but I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Google maps told me there was a ramen shop on Hornby called Shogun. Apparently it's alright... http://www.beyondrobson.com/restauran...

    2. I'm not sure if they are open yet, but there is a second Benkei Ramen location at Thurlow & Alberni across from the Keg. If it's open it's about 10 minutes from Granville & Pender. If not, just head down to the original Benkei as Peter.V suggested.

Thanks, for the welcome grayelf! Has anyone tried the second Benkei? Is the quality the same as the original Benkei. I've been waiting for a closer ramen option to my workplace.

        2. Does anyone know if santouka ramen is open yet? and...is there a ramen thread to put onto the Olympic thread? couldn't find one

            Great topic for a thread!

I too am curious about Santuoka's opening date.

          2. Without a doubt Motomachi Shokudo on Denman is my all time favourite Ramen joint. I've dragged my sick, sorry and hungover self through sleet and rain and cold there for their delicious spicy organic chicken ramen. Their charcoal ramen is also great.
I was there yesterday afternoon for a big bowl of spiciness and found out that they've extended their Olympic hours and during the month of February WILL BE OPEN WEDNESDAYS.

Still, cash or debit only. NO CREDIT CARDS (bowls are $8.95 - $9.95) each.
            Enjoy.

Santouka is closed for what could be up to a month. I spoke to the friend of a layed off employee and apparently there was a sprinkler mishap that caused damage.

Thanks for the heads up -- I had it shortlisted for a meal in a couple of weeks.
