Side Dish/Salad/Soup for Baked Haddock?

Going over to my buddy's house for dinner Saturday night, and he's preparing baked haddock. I want to make some sort of appropriate side dish (or salad, or soup, you get the idea) that will get some "wow"s. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  1. Do you have any idea how he's preparing the fish? Lots of ways to prep baked haddock and so, say, if you thought he was doing it Veracruz-style, you might want to tailor your side to fit the cuisine chosen . . . .

      he's not the best cook in the world, so I'd imagine he's doing something simple - bread/cracker crumbs, lemon, butter, etc.

    2. Well then, the sky's the limit - that's a pretty flavor-neutral way to make the fish. If it were me, I'd make a nice crisp side salad, if you want to get "fancy", you could add some dried cranberries and walnuts and some gorganzola and a fruity vinaigrette. That's a heavy meal, in my mind, and the best foil for that is a good salad!
