Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Birthday tonight but nothing booked. Need suggestions.

Hi, I have a birthday tonight that I need to get a last min reservation. I used to be somewhat on top of the restaurant scene, but have been out of town a lot over the last year. I am looking for a restaurant that is relatively new (opened in the last 1-2 years) that is interesting/recommended by the folks on the board. Budget is open, but would prefer to keep it cheaper than Per Se. 2 people.

Any ideas?

The o.p. wants a place that is "...relatively new (opened in the last 1-2 years)..."

          And you're recommending Red Cat?!

          • Cuisine? Area of the city? Level of formality? Wine important? How long do you want to be at table? Do you want to dress up? How about noise level - you want loud, you want quiet, you want an intimate feeling or no?

Assume open on all of the above. Thanks.

It's then too broad a request for you to get good help.

Ok. Thanks for that. Very helpful.

                    • Scarpetta, Daniel has just been redone, new Aureole, Marea, Le Bernardin are all excellent......

Poster asked for something that is relatively new. That knocks out Daniel, Aureole, and Le Bernardin. I don't think redesigns or new spaces negate that.
