Best Sushi for Lunch?

JeremyEG Jan 27, 2010 09:14 PM

Hey Guys,
We're be coming from downtown and would like a great sushi lunch on a Sunday. We are NYC hounds and love sushi (traditional, not so much the American rolls). Price is flexible and recs are welcome. Thanks so much for your help!

My favorite is Vic Sushi Bar because they have amazing spicy sauce. I recommend the spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy chopped seafood salad. I have not had spicy sauce like this anywhere else. Also, they have a special: any 3 regular rolls for $11.

Depending on how flexible your cashflow is, and since you are sushiheads, you should check out the Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's original eponymous sushi bar.

Morimoto is your best bet for lunch, as Vic Sushi does not open until 4:30. Morimoto has the best fish, if you are looking for sashimi and not fancy rolls.

I don't think that Morimoto is open for lunch on Sundays. In fact, all of my favorites are not open for lunch on Sundays.

Ahh, that Sunday detail slipped past me. Yea, Vic is definitely closed Sundays. Mizu may be open Sundays. I know New Heaven is open on Sundays. It's the place I resort to if I have an insatiable sushi craving, but their sushi is not very good IMO. Their rainbow roll isn't bad.

You might check Haru or Raw for lunch on Sunday, I'm not sure if they're open but they're both good. Their menus both have a selection of more classic sushi as well as a fair amount of special rolls that may or may not be for you, but I like them. My favorite little spot, sushi planet, is sadly not open on Sundays until 3 I think, but if that would suit you for a late lunch I would recommend going there. Also, it's byob!
