Guess What? Large New Hong Kong Style Cafe Opens Up In Rosemead

LA Bistro has opened up at 7540 E. Garvey in Rosemead. Like Gourmet Island which replaced The Kitchen in Alhambra, LA Bistro has also taken over space previously the longtime home to a succession of dim sum/Hong Kong seafood restaurants. Previous occupants of this space include Seafood City and New Capital Seafood. This seems to be additional proof of the insatiability of the demand for this kind of food. Question is what distinguishes LA Bistro from the dozens of other eateries of this genre. It could be their $4.99 specials--grilled chicken steak, grilled salmon steak, Portuguese shrimp and Korean ribs. Or maybe there isn't anything to distinguish it from the others--just the value play.

Been open for about 2 months now.

Awful, simply awful. Did I mention this place was awful?

Was there over the holidays ... salmon steak was like salmon jerky, the chicken steak makes even the worst chicken fried steak taste like a piece of prime sirloin steak , the pastas that accompanied the meals would make the Chef, as in Chef Boyardee, blush in embarassment.

    Awful, just awful.

Better going to Addictive down the street and drowning your sorrows in thin, soupy broth.

I would have to agree with you ipsedixit. I went in and had the salmon steak and a noodle dish. Salmon was bad and a small portion. Nothing like the picture. The noodle dish was ok but kinda oily. $4.99 price isn't going to do it for me to go back.
