Bon Apetite morphing into Gourmet?

Sharuf Jan 26, 2010 03:59 AM

Just got the Gourmet replacement Bon Apetite, Feb. issue, and it felt like I was reading dear departed Gourmet. The look of the magazine is more artistic and upscale than I remembered, and the lengthy and depth-y article on tofu was of Gourmet literary caliber.

Maybe I won't ask for my money back after all.

    I still don't think it's "there" yet.

I'm still a bit miffed over that one, being that I got a mailer from Gourmet telling me that they were replacing my Gourmet subscription with one for Bon Appetit.... a magazine I ALREADY have a subscription for.

BTW, am I the only one who picked up on the error(s?) in the Feb edition? I'm just now getting around to reading it, and had to shake my head a couple of times over the labeled picture of the barley soup that had beans and carrots in it, when the recipe called for none (it was actually the ribollita).

That said, I enjoyed the issue, there are actually a few recipes in there that i'm ready to try, and the chocolate desserts look mmmmm. I'm also glad they didn't go all Valentines Day crazy in it.

I wouldn't go so far (unfortunately) to say they are morphing into Gourmet, but the art department has definitely slanted in that direction. The photo layouts were strikingly reminiscent in this month's edition. Wish I could say the same about the articles.
