Avoid eating at Hugh's Room - the food is AWFUL

Went to the Gordon Lightfoot tribute - a wonderful concert. The dinner was inedible. the food is mid priced to expensive and is abomidable - very greasy - very salty - over sauced - raw or undercooked....

I had an excellent rack of lamb here, cooked to perfection, medium-rare. Service was excellent and friendly. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals and we have high standards. No one expected 5 star dining, but this was good food. Great venue, too. I think you just struck out...every restaurant slips now and again.

I've been to Hugh's Room well over a dozen times for the music. I've always only had one or two orders of the mussels, which are fairly decent. Nothing else appealed to me. My wife picks at a salad. Apparently, you just need to order SOME food, not a lot, nor even a whole meal. And you don't have to order alcohol.

Seating is first come, first served -- when you make your reservations, so be early.

Yes please more details. I have gone to Hugh's room several times and always enjoyed my meals. I tended to go with the concert special menu. Perhaps that's the better way to go?

Any suggestions on where to go around there if the food is terrible? I am going to a concert on Saturday and would like to have early dinner somewhere close if we are not going to eat there...

Blackpearl, as you can see, it's a bit of a standoff on the quality of Hugh's Room food. The OP had a complaint about the oily pesto/shrimp pasta. Ok, order something else. The food is fine there. Plus, you'll be able to reserve a much better table if you order food.

I have to agree - I tried ordering the safest thing on the menu (I can't even recall what it was now, it was a couple of years ago) - I wouldn't quite say that it was inedible but it was pretty bad. It's definitely a tough pill to swallow if you want a great seat - though it is such a cool venue to see a show.

Snoobie, can you add some details about which dishes were so bad? I've been there on a few occasions, but only once to eat. The food was reasonable in my opinion...it's a music venue.

We ate the pasta dish with shrimp. It had a pesto sauce. It was soooooooooooooooo oily, the oil was literally sitting on top of the sauce....
