I'll be heading from Philadelphia to Charlotte NC to visit some friends and was wondering if anyone knows if there are any breweries on the way down that I could visit. Hopefully not too far out of the way.

For preliminary research, you'll find a lot of possibilities on the various regions you'll pass through on the BeerMapping site

Thanks. I'm thinking Foothills and Flying Dog. Not sure if there are any other gems along the way though?

Legend in Richmond isnt bad and is directly on the way. As is Capital Ale House (two locations in the Richmond area). And Foot Hills brewery is in Winston Salem.

Foothills is releasing the Sexual Chocolate in bottles on Saturday, Feb 6th....which is the same weekend that I'm driving down. Unfortunately, I'm driving down Friday and back Sunday. The bottles with probably sell out in 2 hours on Saturday.

FWIW, Capital Ale House now has a third location in Midlothian, along with the downtown and Innsbrook locations. Not a brewery, but one of my favorite beer bars! I visit a freind in Midlothian every year, so that location is very convenient. (And I usually stay in the Glen Allen/Innsbrook area.)

UPDATE: I just checked Capital's web site. Their fourth location has opened in Fredericksburg.

If you're willing to go about two hours out of your way, you could visit the Dogfish Head brewery in Milton, Delaware. That may be a stretch, but I bet DFH would be worth the detour.

I really enjoyed Yard's IPA the last time I was in Philly and am planning to tour the brewery when I'm down there in April. They do tours on Saturdays.

I was at DFH brewpub over the summer and enjoyed it. Had the Johnny Cask (75 min IPA). If you like Yards you need to try the Old Bartholomew Barleywine.
