Aussie Girl desperate for good cafe near(ish) Tudor City!

Hi everyone, I'm moving to Manhattan in March of 2010 and - coming from Melbourne Australia - I am a serious cafe snob. If I was living in the West Village, I wouldn't even have to post this message. However... I had a good scout around Tudor City area when I was in NY last year, and I couldn't find any cafe (I don't include the Starbucks chain) or diner (I'll accept a good diner) with an iota of vibe and/ or atmosphere. A couple of sports bars (not my scene) and grungy eateries is all I came across. Please... can someone advise me. I'm on 43rd between 1st and 2nd... help! My sanity may be at stake.
