New Mexican Restaurant in Malden?

I work on the same intersection that Beansprout used to be (Commercial and Medford St.)I got an email from my councilman that the site was approved for a license for a new Mexican restaurant. I LOVE Mexican food and since I am stepping distance from the place I'm thrilled if it is true. Does anyone know anything about this? Construction has started.
I spent 12 years in California and I miss real Mexican. I haven't been to Angela's which I hear from this board is the most authentic. It would be great if I had something right down the street. Or bad (waistline)

  1. Saw an article in the Malden Observer today about this. I don't know how authentic it will be - "authentic Mexican" seems to mean different things to different people. Their chef is from El Salvador. (To be fair, though, El Salvadoreans do make a mean burrito - we love the ones at Valle Restaurant in Malden and Super Burrito in Everett).

Personally, I'm happy that it's local folks who are opening this place. When I saw that the two storefronts were being combined (from the former Beansprout and a bank), I thought uh-oh, here comes Chili's.

Dockside owners? Call me skeptical, but if they do Mexican the way they do sports pub food, it won't come close to authentic. Malden can use the place, but absent glowing reports from repuatble sources, I will stick to TLM, Mexico Lindo, Ole, etc. for my near-North Shore Mexican dining.

I have nothing against El Salvadorean food but that is what I noticed about the difference between CA Mexican and MA mexican. MA Mexican food is El Salvadoran with a burrito or taco thrown in. So knowing that AND that the owners will be from the Dockside makes me not fear for my waistline.
