Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Boston (and suburbs)

pros & cons?

Dinner for five friends (including a couple of foodies) in Cambridge this Saturday - hoping for comfortable & very solidly good food. Of the four places I've pulled off this list, I've only been to Helmand. I can't find a menu for CK... any opinions that could help me choose?

Helmand
West Side Lounge
Central Kitchen
Ten Tables

    1. I've just discovered West Side & Ten Tables are both booked, so they are out. :-(

        1. What about Hungry Mother? Maybe Green Street Tavern? West Side to me is more a nice place for apps and a well-made drink.... Temple Bar, almost next door, or Chez Henri, around the corner, would be better, imho

            1. There are so many choices in Cambridge:

Harvest, Oleana, Rendezvous, Cragie on Main, Salts all come to mind. Many more. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. I would get going and book something. I've found during the past week or so , that despite the "Great Recession" popular places, even the expensive ones fill up.

I was going to suggest Rendezvous too and yes, it depends on what you want to spend. I think Hungry Mother would be too crowded at this stage. Don't forget the Blue Room.

Rendezvous, Craigie, East Coast Grill, Blue Room, Tupelo, Hungry Mother, Gran Gusto, Chez Henri, Green Street - not, imo, Harvest which I find over-priced and unreliable, or Oleana, which I find too crowded to enjoy with 5 friends.

I just had my first meal at TW Food, and really enjoyed it. It doesn't seem to come up on the "good places to eat in Cambridge" discussions as much as the above places. Why is that?

Because it's so far from most of the rest of Cambridge. I love it, too, though!

It's pretty darn close to Ten Tables, though.

                          • I think Central Kitchen will fit the bill nicely. It can get a little loud on weekend nights, but "solidly good food" describes it perfectly!
