Whole duck?

Does anyone know where I can buy a whole duck in NOLA?

  1. Have you had trouble locating duck? I wouldn't think it would be hard to find. I've got whole duck at Rouses in the past, and they have them at Hong Kong Market. I would also guess Whole Foods and Dorginac's, although I've never looked for one at either place. Basically, I'd say any supermarket is likely to carry duck.

Even Wal-Mart has duck in their poultry frozen section. Long Island duck runs close to $10 now. I remember when I bought them for $5 not that long ago. Dorgniacs would be my choice simply because it is such a rush to walk through that store and feel it tugging at your American Express card! ;-)

    2. I've bought fresh Cleaver & Co. ducks that were second to none. They'll butcher them up for you as well (and help identify the guts ... I always need help with that). They're likely more expensive than the other suggestions however.

Several of the other suggestions were made over four years ago, so yes other options are now available.

Oh hell. I vowed not to be suckered into one of these golden oldie threads that have been cropping up and then put my foot right in it. Sorry about that.

As to C&Co's ducks: they're farm raised. Less exciting than wild but consistent.

I use ducks I shot myself so I wonder if Cleaver & Co is delivering WILD duck? Dunno. Just asking.Doesn't seem legal from where I sit(shoot).
