Darcy's in Quincy?

We had a nightcap at Darcy's in Quincy last night, and good Lord you talk about a place with the type of characters you only find around Boston. The bartender was right out of central casting (and a truly nice guy) and the people at the bar were the most random assortment of people you could imagine.

Several people have told me that the bar pizza at Darcy's is excellent, but we were too full to try it, having had a rather big meal at the Channel Cafe in Boston earlier in the evening. Has anyone tried the pizza there? How does it compare to other bar pizza south of Boston?

Hey Marc, I shared your comments about Darcy's when I was at Cafe tonight and they all think you should come in and try the pizza. Personally, I think you should come into the Cafe bar and order the chopped salad with scallops. Not sure what you drink, but they do a really decent pour.

LOL, well, I guess I'll come in for the pizza, then! And BTW, the bartender at Darcy's did pour a couple of nice Guinness drafts.

Had the pizza from Darcys Friday night and enjoyed it. Thin crust, good flavor on the sauce, a little too much cheese for me, but I will just request a lighter hand on this the next time. Held up nicely 2 days later when reheated for lunch. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll be back !

I've posted about Darcy's pizza a few times. It's more of a traditional pizza than a bar pizza. Last night I had the buffalo chicken (my current favorite) and it was large enough to split and still go home with a slice. Since I was dining at Cafe deParis, they shape it in more of a rectangular shape. When you're in Darcy's, it's traditional round. No matter what the shape, this is good pizza. While I like Darcy's, I'm more apt to go to the bar at the Cafe and they're pretty good about letting me order off the Darcy's menu. I'm not sure if you realized that their are actually 3 restaurants here; Darcy's, Cafe deParis and the Chowder House?

I beleive you are also a fan of Carmine's pizza...how does this compare and how does it hold up for take out ?

I do like Carmines and order from there regularly because it's closer to home. However, Darcy's (Cafe) is on my way home for work so it tends to be a regular stop. If I were to compare the two, I would say that Darcy's uses more oil on their pizza and the crust is a little thinner. Carmines uses oregano. Both hold up perfectly fine for take-out, although when it comes to cold pizza, I like Darcy's better.

:-D What time were you there last night? We could have had a mini-Chowhound outing!

And yes, I did know that there are 3 places there--a few of us ate there a couple of years ago. It was in a basic family-friendly dining room, though I don't know exactly which restaurant it was. Maybe the Chowder House?

Sounds like you were in the Chowder House. Try the Cafe next time, it has more of a bistro atmosphere. I had stopped their straight from work so I was gone by 6:30. Some of the best items on the menu are the wood grilled scallops; cedar planked salmon; petite filet and their chopped salad, and of course Darcy's pizza.
